Classic Cheese Pizza

🧾 Ingredients (serves 4)

For the dough:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ tsp salt

For the sauce:

  • ½ cup canned crushed tomatoes
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the topping:

  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Optional: grated Parmesan, fresh basil, chili flakes

Method

1. Make the dough

○ In a bowl, mix flour, yeast, salt, and warm water. Add olive oil and knead until smooth (about 8–10 minutes). Cover and let rise for 1–2 hours until doubled.

2. Prepare the sauce

○ In a small pan, heat a splash of olive oil. Sauté garlic briefly, then add crushed tomatoes and oregano. Simmer for 10–15 minutes until slightly thickened. Season to taste.

3. Shape the dough

○ Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F). Punch down the dough and roll into a 10–12 inch circle. Transfer to a lightly oiled baking tray or pizza stone.

4. Assemble the pizza

○ Spread a thin layer of sauce over the dough. Sprinkle mozzarella evenly. Add any optional toppings.

5. Bake

○ Bake for 12–15 minutes until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbling. Let cool slightly before slicing.

💡 Tips

  • For crispier crust, preheat the tray or stone before placing the pizza.
  • Use part-skim mozzarella for less grease and better melt.
  • Add fresh basil after baking for a burst of flavor.
  • Dough can be made ahead and refrigerated overnight for better texture.
