Garlic naan

🧾 Ingredients (serves 4)

For the dough:

  2 cups all-purpose flour (maida)

  ½ tsp baking powder

  ¼ tsp baking soda

  ½ tsp salt

  2 tbsp plain yogurt

½ cup warm milk (adjust as needed)

  1 tsp sugar

1 tbsp oil or melted butter

For topping:

  2–3 cloves garlic (finely minced)

  2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

Melted butter or ghee (for brushing)

Method

1.  Prepare the dough

  ◦  Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.

  ◦  Add yogurt, milk, and oil. Knead into a soft dough.

  ◦  Cover and rest for 1–2 hours.

2.  Divide and shape

  ◦  Divide dough into equal portions.

  ◦  Roll each into an oval or teardrop shape.

  ◦  Sprinkle garlic and coriander on top. Press gently.

3.  Cook the naan

  ◦  Heat a tawa or skillet until very hot.

  ◦  Place naan (garlic side up) on the pan.

  ◦  Cook until bubbles form, then flip.

  ◦  Cook the other side until golden brown spots appear.

4.  Finish and serve

  ◦  Brush with melted butter or ghee.

  ◦  Serve hot with curry or chutney.

💡 Tips

Use cast iron or heavy-bottomed pan for best texture.

For restaurant-style char, cook naan directly over flame for a few seconds.

Dough should be soft but not sticky—adjust milk as needed.

Garlic can be sautéed briefly before topping for milder flavor.
